When you think of Venmo, you may recall splitting a bill or paying a friend, but sending cash gifts has become just as popular – from birthdays to weddings to “just because” moments. Venmo asked us to personalize this experience by giving users the ability to package up a payment as a virtual gift complete with a variety of animated opening experiences for the recipient.
Each :05 second vector animation has a 1MB file limit which presented some challenges as we developed our storytelling style. Our team of artists rose to the occasion, finding clever ways to push the limitations, both conceptually and technically.
The new feature was well received, leading to our continued production of over 50 custom themes including a partnership with the “Queen of Christmas” herself, Mariah Carey. Yep, it’s the gift that keeps on giving…
